Livelihood Issues
Saval Bharat Foundation is widening livelihood options, as one of the key adopted strategies, both farm and non-farm sectors for reducing poverty in the remote underdeveloped tribal pockets of Odisha. Popularization of sustainable agriculture practices, conservation of natural resources, promotion of people’s organization like farmers group, primary producers’ groups and their federations, facilitation of people’s access to microfinance and government schemes, enhancement of market linkages and provision of skill-building support for promotion of off and non-farm micro enterprise/ social enterprise are some of the key elements in this pursuit. Thus, Saval Bharat Foundation’s livelihood strategy focuses on household food and nutrition security and expanding income earning opportunities for rural poor, more particularly tribals.
In addition to optimizing employment generation in agriculture and allied sectors, Saval Bharat Foundation also strives hard to help the landless households, agricultural labourers, and small and marginal landowners explore opportunities in the largely untapped non-farm sector. Providing capacity building support and ensuring better access to market form the components of this strategy. All along, a great deal of emphasis is placed on ensuring food security through promotion of diverse and multi-cropping.
Through evidence-based research the issues are identified to take up advocacy for a pro-poor policy in livelihoods. Emphasis is made on convergence with mainstream development programmes and other stakeholders for program sustainability
Disaster Management
With its topography and unique geographical location, India is highly susceptible to natural disasters. Floods, cyclones and earthquakes have a devastating impact on people, community infrastructure and the local economy. Saval Bharat Foundation has a response-ready and experienced team that proactively works to mitigate disaster, minimise damage and enhance community resilience. This is ideally initiated in collaboration with the government machinery and partners on the ground for early warning advisories and relief to affected communities. When required, rescue and rehabilitation support are also provided.
Disaster risk reduction, mitigation and response have been integral part of Saval Bharat’s commitment to social responsibility. As part of this commitment, Disaster Management is taken up as a focus area, to primarily assist disaster-affected communities to prepare and recover from the impact of disasters in a quick span of time. The programme also supported disaster-prone communities to prepare them to face repeated occurrences of disaster. Spread across varied socio-economic and geographic conditions in the country in case of severe and long-lasting impact,Saval Bharat also works with communities to revive livelihoods, improve health and education, and ensure sustainable development. Saval Bharat Foundation supports in building safer and disaster resilient communities by a holistic, pro-active, technology driven and sustainable strategy that involves all stakeholders and fosters a culture of prevention, preparedness and mitigation.
Our Goal is to create stronger and more resilient communities in disaster prone and climate vulnerable districts, reduce disaster risks and livelihood losses in very high and high climate vulnerable districts and empower vulnerable community to take appropriate actions and decisions on disaster risk management.
Our Disaster Management programme works with a networked organisation comprising volunteers from within the organization , cross functional bodies , local youth communities and Community Based Organisations. Saval Bharat is focused to build pool of local volunteers across states trained in responding and supporting the community to ensure their participation and empower them to understand the challenges and risks at hand.
Excessive Mining & Environmental Impacts With Mitigation Process.
Shramdaan or voluntary contribution can be brought together as an important partners and stakeholders actualizing one goal for water resilience, Saval Bharat uses various approaches, plans and structures to help conserve and harness water in sustainable ways. This enhances the community’s livelihood security and potential. Technical, financial and capacity building support help plan and execute appropriate water security measures and Saval Bharat Foundation helps build capacities of representatives and leaders of community institutions such as Gram Panchayats, SHGs, and youth groups for supporting the work that this organisation is doing at the grassroots to help communities tackle drought, achieve water security and make agriculture as well as other means of livelihoods in rural India environmentally sustainable. These water initiatives are part of a larger holistic approach to environmental sustainability particularly in the mining areas of our demography.
